Bringing Hydroponic Gardening to Classrooms and Local Communities
We are empowering local schools and community organizations to explore the power of soil-free agriculture through hands-on learning. Developed as part of a Spring 2026 project at Michigan Technological University, that is ongoing our group provides practical, educational, and informational materials designed to make indoor hydroponic gardening accessible, sustainable, and rewarding.
To help educators and community leaders bring these living laboratories into their spaces, we offer:
- Step-by-Step System Guides: Practical setup and operational instructions for beginner-friendly Wick Systems, Deep Water Culture (DWC) units, and space-saving Vertical Towers.
- Safety & Maintenance Resources: Comprehensive guidelines on electrical safety, nutrient management, pH control, and system troubleshooting to ensure a smooth, classroom-friendly experience.
- Funding & Grant Writing Assistance: Complete templates, budgeting guidance, and curated grant opportunities—such as MiSTEM, KidsGardening, and community food system grants—to help organizations secure funding for their equipment and supplies.
By integrating STEM concepts with sustainable growing techniques, our goal is to improve fresh food access, enhance cross-curricular learning, and foster environmental stewardship across our community.
