SLACK: Student Leadership Advisory Council of the Keweenaw
“Empowering tomorrow’s leaders, one student, one school, one community at a time.”
Our team is focused on mentoring and supporting high school students across the region as they develop their leadership potential. Working with students from nine local high schools, the SLACK team helps guide them in planning and executing events at their schools that demonstrate the leadership and collaboration skills they’ve cultivated.
This is the first semester of the SLACK program, and the team is laying the groundwork for what will become a long-standing bridge between EmpowerUP and local youth leadership initiatives.
Currently, SLACK members are collaborating with two high schools that are preparing leadership events Hancock (October) and L’Anse (November) to give students a platform to apply what they’ve learned and showcase their growth. The team’s role is to mentor, advise, and inspire, ensuring that each school’s event is impactful, organized, and empowering for every participant. As SLACK continues to evolve, the team aims to build a sustainable mentorship model that strengthens relationships between college students and local schools. By helping young leaders turn their ideas into action, the SLACK team is creating a ripple effect of empowerment throughout the Keweenaw community.
